The Prairie & Pine Way: How We Raise Our Puppies
At Prairie & Pine Canines™, our puppies are raised in our home as part of our everyday family life. We keep our breeding program small so we can remain closely involved with each litter from birth until the puppies leave for their new homes.
Our puppies receive daily handling and age-appropriate exposure to household sounds, children, car rides, scent introduction, and new experiences. We also begin basic potty-training routines and prepare families for the transition home.
HOME-RAISED
Raised in the Heart of Our Home
Our puppies live in our home with their mother rather than being raised in a separate commercial kennel. They grow up surrounded by the familiar sounds, routines, and activity of everyday family life.
Raising the puppies close to us allows us to provide daily care, handle them regularly, and observe how each puppy grows and develops. It also helps us begin learning about their individual personalities before they are matched with new families.
EARLY EXPERIENCES
Enrichment and Socialization
We introduce our puppies to age-appropriate experiences that help them become familiar with the people, sounds, movement, and routines they may encounter in a family home.
Daily Handling
Our puppies receive daily handling and personal attention from an early age. This gives us time to observe their development while helping them become familiar with gentle human interaction.
Everyday Sounds and Children
The puppies are exposed to normal household sounds and spend time around children as appropriate for their age. These experiences introduce them to the everyday activity of family life.
Car Rides and Scent Introduction
As the puppies grow, we begin introducing short car rides and age-appropriate scent activities. These experiences give them safe opportunities to encounter something new.
HEALTH & CARE
Veterinary Care Before Our Puppies Go Home
Before leaving Prairie & Pine Canines, each puppy receives age-appropriate veterinary care and records for the new family.
Veterinary Health Check
Each puppy receives a veterinary health check before going to its new home. Families receive the available records from that visit.
Age-Appropriate Vaccinations and Deworming
Puppies receive their first age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming before pickup. New families should continue care with their own veterinarian according to the recommended schedule.
Records for New Families
We provide the puppy’s available veterinary records so the new family and veterinarian can understand what care has already been completed and what will be needed next.
PUPPY PLACEMENT
Finding the Right Home for Each Puppy
We care deeply about where every puppy is placed. Through the puppy application and several conversations, we take time to learn about each family’s household, dog experience, daily routine, and expectations.
The Dogue de Bordeaux is a large, powerful breed that needs consistent training, responsible care, and a lifelong commitment. We want prospective families to understand the breed’s needs and feel prepared before choosing a puppy.
Our goal is to make a thoughtful match for both the puppy and the family. Submitting an application begins the conversation, but it does not guarantee approval, puppy selection, or placement.

What Each Puppy Takes Home
We provide practical items, paperwork, and information to help families prepare for their puppy’s transition home.
Puppy Documents
Each family receives the applicable written puppy contract, veterinary records, care information, and AKC registration application for their puppy.
Transition Information
Before pickup, we review payment details, transportation arrangements, puppy care, and what the family should expect during the transition into a new home.
Food and Starter Items
Each puppy goes home with food, treats, toys, and a puppy starter bag selected to help the family through the first days at home.
